To All families and Staff – A Message from Superintendent Di Pietro

Please continue to allow me to provide an update to all families and staff on the efforts of Plainfield schools during this COVID-19 school shutdown.  The Governor has extended the school shutdown at least until April 20th.  Schools need to provide at-home instruction that will count as instructional days.

There are FIVE important messages in this call.
1. Schools will remain closed at least until April 20th but students must participate in AT-HOME instruction provided by Plainfield Schools.  In this way, the school year will end Mid-June.

2. If you need support to allow your children to access the internet by computer, please call your child’s school.  If support cannot be provided, print materials will be provided for instruction.

3.The April vacation from April 10 to April 17 will be maintained.  Students, families and staff may benefit from the Spring break during this crisis.  ALL SCHOOLS WILL BE CLOSED!

4. Plainfield Schools are now providing 800 free meals per day.  Meals include a lunch and a breakfast for the next day.  We are prepared to offer up to 2,000 meals per day.  Please take advantage of the free program funded by the federal government.  Meals are served at PHS and PCS from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM and at Moosup Elementary from 12 Noon to 1:00 PM.

5. Please collect and store the supplemental work that was provided these past two weeks.  Your child’s work will be included towards their overall grading for this time period.

As of Monday, March 30th, Plainfield Schools will be providing families and students with instruction which will be counted as school attendance days.  Families will be provided with on-line instructional support for students to complete work.  Teachers will be making connections to homes via the Internet.

If your family has no access to internet or you need to borrow a computer for your child to participate in this instruction, please call the school that your child attends to ask for support.  If you have no access to internet and require that lessons be available in print form, also, please call the school.  We are making every effort to ensure that families have the resources they need to allow students to attend school, daily, during this virus shutdown.  Expect to receive a phone message from your child’s school.

This message and information related to how students will be graded during the shutdown will be posted on the district website.  Again, please expect a call from your local school regarding formal instruction at home which will count as school days, and, which returns our end of school year to mid June.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR EFFORTS, YOUR SUPPORT AND YOUR SACRIFICE.  You all are appreciated for the part each of us plays in helping to control this virus while we find a response.
