Spanish/World Cultures

Welcome - Bienvenidos to the PCS Spanish/World Cultures Program

Course List:
World Cultures
Intro to Spanish
Spanish Grade 8

This program is designed to teach students about Spanish language and culture of Spanish-speaking countries around the world.

Why should my child learn a foreign language?

Young students who study world languages develop a a deeper understanding of language and culture and a global awareness that is essential to their future success.  They also gain important communication skills that will be useful in handling any foreign situation with ease. Learning about other cultures helps to dispel stereotypes and encourage open-mindedness and communication among people of different backgrounds.

Why learn Spanish?

- Spanish is spoken by almost 400 million people around the world.  It is the official language of 21 countries.

- Spanish is spoken by over 37 million people in the U.S. alone!

Other benefits:

- Students who study a foreign language for at least two years generally earn higher verbal scores on the SAT/ACT.  Learning a second language increases students’ understanding of their first language!

- Learning Spanish will give your child a head-start in learning other languages.  Once your brain creates connections between two languages, it is easier to make those same connections to other new languages.

How can I help my child?

You don't have to know Spanish to help your child learn! Encourage your student to study the vocab a few minutes each night; participate in homework assignments (listening and looking for Spanish all around you); remind your child to do his or her best both in and out of class; and be an enthusiastic supporter of your child's world language learning!
